Is Boiler Cover Worth It?

Boiler cover is worth it if a surprise repair bill would be hard for you to pay, if your boiler is out of its maker’s warranty, or if you would not otherwise remember the yearly service. It is less likely to be worth it if your boiler is new, still under warranty, and you already have it serviced every year.

Cover, or pay as you go?

A cover plan

Yearly service included and repairs covered under the plan’s terms. From £168 over a year (12 × £14), whether or not the boiler breaks down. Best for older boilers out of warranty, and anyone who wants a fixed monthly cost.

Pay as you go

A boiler service is £115 each year. A repair is from £96, with the price agreed before work starts. Best for newer boilers under warranty, and anyone happy to pay for a repair when it happens.

Landlord plans include the yearly gas safety certificate and start from £18 a month.

What boiler cover is

You pay a set amount each month. In return the plan pays for boiler repairs, and most plans include the yearly boiler service. It is a service agreement with a heating company, so the people you pay are the people who turn up.

What you get with a Mr Reactive plan

Plans for homeowners start from £14 a month. Landlord plans, with the gas safety certificate included, start from £18 a month.
A yearly boiler service is included.
Unlimited repair requests, with no limit on the value of each repair, as long as the boiler is not beyond economical repair.
Our own Gas Safe registered engineers, based in Bradford. We cover West Yorkshire only.

Prices are the “from” prices on our website in October 2026. Your plan price depends on the plan and the call-out option you choose.

What to know before you sign up

We would rather you knew these now than found out later.

The first 28 days. You cannot make a repair request in the first 28 days. If a fault develops in that time, a pay-as-you-go repair is available.
Changing your mind. You have 14 days to cancel and get your payments back. If we carried out a repair in that time, you pay for that repair.
How long the plan runs. Plans run for 12 or 36 months. If you cancel after the 14 days, the rest of the term is still payable.
A boiler that cannot be repaired. If your boiler is under 7 years old and beyond economical repair, we may replace it. Conditions apply, including at least 6 months as a customer and being able to show the installation commissioning checklist and service history.
Boilers we do not cover. These include Potterton Powermax, Elm Le Blanc, Ferroli, Keston, back boilers and commercial boilers.
Service history matters. A repair is not covered if the boiler has not been serviced in the last 12 months.

Questions customers ask

Is boiler cover worth it for a new boiler?

Usually less so. A new boiler is normally under the maker’s warranty, so the main thing you need is the yearly service, which costs £115 on its own.

Can I claim straight away?

No. You cannot make a repair request in the first 28 days of cover. A pay-as-you-go repair is available in that time.

Can I cancel?

You have 14 days to cancel and get your payments back, less the cost of any repair already carried out. After that the plan runs for its full term and the remaining payments are due if you cancel.

Is the boiler service included?

Yes. A yearly boiler service is included in the plan.

Which areas do you cover?

West Yorkshire only, including Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield and Wakefield.
